“Water agreed to appear as a small fountain on the surface of the Earth. From this fountain Water spread to the North, South, East, and West,” wrote Bill Martin in Lost Legends (Pomegranate, 1995). Throughout a lifetime living and painting in the San Francisco Bay Area, Martin (American, 1943–2008) became central to the visionary art movement with his works exploring the natural world.
